All players will make mistakes, whether it be in practice or in games, but it is what they do after. We teach our players that it is ok to make mistakes, but

Building empathy through teaching sportsmanship and cultivating a positive environment that prioritizes respect and dignity, are core principles in our club. Promoting empathy between teammates translates to sportsmanship between opponents. On the soccer field, putting ourselves in our teammates and opponents "cleats" help us to anticipate their actions and react while playing. Off the field, this translates to reacting to others' situations by showing appropriate reactions and empathy towards others.

Setting clear expectations, teaching responsibility, and enforcing rules are some of the ways that our coaches teach respect throughout our club. Our coaches model respect through our interactions with players, referees, and other competitors, while also fostering environments for our players to show respect towards teammates and coaches. By coaching with respect, we teach our players how to show respect.

Commitment is an important life-long skill to have and can be developed through youth sports. At Lightning FC, we teach our players to commit to the team and strive to work for themselves and their teammates. Commitment to work through obstacles and to push through difficult situations are important qualities to have both on and off the field. Committing to be successful both individually and as a team, and continuing to show up through adversity is a key value that we teach our players.

The Lightning FC family is dedicated to positively impacting the development of youths within the Hawaii community. We foster a lifelong passion for soccer and build friendships on and off the field within our club. Our commitment to the community is shown through our participation in programs and partnerships and services within the community. In our Lightning Ohana, we always strive to better those within our club through building personal growth, development, and leadership. We encourage, inspire, and empower each player to reach for the stars within the sport and in life. We aim to create leaders and individuals who will inspire others, emphasizing soccer’s transformative role in youth development.

Whether on the soccer field, in a classroom, or later in life, the principles of being an effective leader remain constant. At Lightning FC, we strive to create influential leaders by building player’s confidence, communication, and teamwork, which will translate into both on and off the field. Our coaches are held to a high standard and model practical leadership qualities through their coaching and interactions with players. We empower our future leaders by creating an environment where players are encouraged to showcase their leadership skills.
